Residency Requirements

According to the Louisiana Civil Code, the couple can apply for a divorce if the plaintiff (the spouse who initiates the case) has lived in the state for at least one year before filing. Also, the plaintiff should file for divorce with the court in the county where the other spouse currently resides or in the county of the last matrimonial domicile.
